Fret Tester - Learn Notes App Reviews

This is an excellent app, the only thing I would change is to maybe add a scale/arpeggio trainer, and to change the fact that in some modes you can only study four frets at a time. This is fine for guitar and bass, but mandolins use diatonic fingering and we play all the notes up to the seventh fret in first position. Fix the positioning for mandolin, and add more things to study, and this app would be perfect!

Excellent guitar fretboard quiz app. Worth the money.

I am looking forward to using this app to get really familiar with the guitar fretboard.

I am fairly terrible at memorization, and my playing has reached the point that I cant progress without knowing the notes of the fretboard. I tried innumerable exercises on my own, but nothing worked. Im not the whole way through the fretboard yet, but this app is actually working for me! Im very excited about the possibilities that will be opened up, once I have the fretboard memorized. Being able to study small sections made all the difference. 5 stars!

Fantastic app

This app is awesome for fretboard memorization. It hasnt been updated in a while, but works great on my ipad and iphone 5 using ios7.

Fret tester is the best app ever. Im a GIT graduate and man i wish i wouldve had it a long time ago.

I have tried just about all the fretboard trainers on the App Store and this is by far the best and one of the cheaper paid ones. It has not been updated for awhile and could use some new features and maybe a make over but this is a solid app. Dont waste your money, just get this one. Also developer please revisit and give it some new features such as goals, more than four speeds, maybe actual display real or something more creative. A make over would be nice. Again though, this is a five star app.

In the Name Note game, I would like to hear the note when it appears, not when I select it. This visual/auditory reinforcement would be a big help. As it is now, when you tap the note the dot immediately changes and the note sounds so Im making an incorrect association between the sound of the note and the visual indication. In the Find Note game, I would like the option of seeing no dots on the fretboard so that I am forced to find the note without any help. The app could use a bit of updating as others have suggested.

After 20 years of not knowing the full fretboard, now I do. Do a little section at a time. It adds up.

The only app I could find with notation. Theres plenty of fretboard apps but they only use the note names. A great way to get started on reading music as a guitarist!

Ive purchased a lot of guitar apps that I end up either never using or being underwhelmed by. This is not one of those apps. I have been playing guitar for 6 months and I am pretty familiar with the notes in the first position. However, theres a big difference between knowing notes in order vs instant recall. For fluid playing you need instant recall and this app is perfect for that. After a few weeks of this app I think my speed will be much better. This is especially true since I use standard notation more often than TAB. Highly recommended!

I got this to work on my basic note recognition on the fretboard, and to practice sight reading on a staff. I was pleased to see it also can show you notes on the staff and then test how well you can find the corresponding notes on the fretboard! Plus, it has a side benefit: This app has helped me to practice increasing my attention span--a useful counterpoint to the short spurts of attention that social media and instant messaging apps tend to cater to. All in all, a great app!

I cant play this game because it is too big for my iPad Air 2. It cuts off the G and G# which are on the right side of the screen, I cant access them.

Minus one star because it hasnt been updated for newer screen sizes. I agree with another reviewer who says the note should be played before.

Works well. If you run into a problem with cutoff buttons, try restarting your device. Worked for me.
